ADHD is a developmental delay. Long term stimulant treatment helps the ADHD brain become less delayed (at least according to some data).

People with adhd have delayed development in mental control and self-regulation skills.


It's interesting that early intervention in children with autism results in "catching up"
on delayed skills.

I believe the same could happen if children with adhd were diagnosed younger.
