Re: Steps to get Assessed for ADHD

Want to be taken seriously? Get an advocate and tell them what you want to happen - docs have a habit of listening to your advocate.
You may even get one for free if you are near a city, as some advocacy agents are charities.
Eshy lives - deal with it x

Re: Steps to get Assessed for ADHD

Yes greyhound Primary Care Physician. I just moved to NJ in Oct. So I have a new doc. But as usual, limited help, limited everything, so primarily useless. I have to take care of all my fatigue, shortness of breath, etc. B4 I can even worry about ADHD treatment/diagnosis. I was supposed to go today, but it took me way too long to get to sleep and then didn't get up until after 4 pm, so I missed my 2nd (rescheduled) appt.

And don't feel bad, I'm confused by all these acronyms as well. Especially the internet slang ones, always have to look them up. Thanks to internet slang sites I'm not so behind the times.

Re: Steps to get Assessed for ADHD

I just wanted to say I've got Medicare as my primary coverage, then a really good secondary coverage. When I got too depressed, my PCP couldn't refer me to any psychiatrist because he didn't know of any psychiatrist in the area who accepts Medicare. So, I did my own search...none found accepting Medicare. It has to do with what the government pays psychiatrists...very inadequate payment, so they are essentially boycotting Medicare and Medicaid. Some don't even accept insurance at all. I asked for help at my cardiologist's office (being associated with the medical school and county hospital), but after all, they only found an NP. Well, I saw her a couple of times, but her lack of knowledge was appalling, and she just dismissed the idea that I might have ADD. I was depressed, but my PCP was okay with ordering the Prestiq I was put on. Then, months later, I received a letter that said the NP was leaving and said I could call the psychiatry department for an appointment. That's when I found out they actually had real psychiatrists that accepted Medicare. My psychiatrist may not specialize in ADD, but she was able to diagnose it eventually.
