14 days with Ritalin , nothing.

hi ,

I started with Ritalin two weeks ago for helping my A.D.D.
unfortunately , it did nothing.

I started with 10mg - nothing happen.
In 15mg I was a little bit more concentrated but still not enough .
On 20mg it made my ADD worse , and I had fast heartbeats.

I just wonder if I there is a significant difference for each 1mg (so I need to continue trying , maybe take 16,17,18 and so on..)
or:
If there is no difference - Ritalin is not my solution

Re: 14 days with Ritalin , nothing.

This is not medical advice! Just my interpretation of what I know and read!!

I found the effects of ritalin to be very subtle. For example I was having problems especially with narrative reading however this improved dramatically. There are side effects also, which do get better over time.

The brain is a very complex balance, and taking too much medication can be worse then taking no medication. If you are feeling highly anxious it probably means the dose you are taking is too high.

Try doing things that require concentration that you were having trouble with before. The goal of the drug is not to feel better, as this drug will mostly it will have the opposite effect. But it does make heavy mental tasks smoother, and it makes organizing tasks feel more natural.

I have heard from a friend who takes Adderall that it produces a more happy effect. Personally I do not want a drug to influence my emotions if possible, just solve my ADD. And of course, it takes a lot of adjustments and time to find the right dose. Don't give up!! It's worth it in the end!!

A final note is you are unlocking a portion of the brain that until now has not worked properly. Give yourself a little time to figure out the difference. No drug is going to instantly make you a smarter then you were before either!

Just one more thing I needed to add. This drug will help you with ADD but it won't do anything for you if you don't work your *** off. I know for a fact I'm a better StarCraft II player with this, but playing SCII doesn't get my homework done! You must still work your *** off to benefit from any ADD drug!

So true!
I know if something interests me I can "hyper focus."
If it's at all boring-I have to put a real effort into the project.
Medication DOES HELP, but you have to work with it.
Give the Ritalin some time. The dosage may need to be adjusted or you may need to try another kind.

I've been on ritalin for years and also dexedrine for years. Dexedrine is by far smoother and better I believe because it doesn't give you that excessively fast heart beat by default.

Re: 14 days with Ritalin , nothing.

thank you for the replies.
But you didnt answer my question

I know that 15mg is not for me. I realy dont think that I need time or to wait until the 15mg will help me - especially when most of the people feel significant improvement on the first time.

So my question was:
Should I need to try 16/17 mg - or try another medicine?
There is any difference between 15mg and 17mg? what is the effect of 1mg?

If your body is not reacting well to your current dose the last thing you would want to do is increase it!! Usually doses get increased when you do not feel the effects.

For me it took about a week for my body to adjust to the medication. If you cannot find a good balance of secondary effects/positive effects it would be worth discussing other options with your doctor.

Here is a good document that explains different medications that I found useful. http://www.drbehrmann.com/physiciansPerspective.pdf

Again this is not medical advice so please see a doctor for any medical advice!
