Re: Measurement Conversion Chart for United States - Canada/Australia/U.K.

Couple of things to bear in mind: a UK pint and a US pint are different 568mL in the UK, 480 in the US. In fact, it seems like all imperial measures are different in the UK--fluid ounces and gallons, too, according to my English husband who's reading over my shoulder.

Also, dry ingredients are measured by weight, not volume, in the UK, and (obviously) equal volumes of different items does not mean equal weight. That's the biggest hassle in converting recipes. I have a big spreadsheet of ingredients that MIT weighed and measured. I'll see if I can post it.

Nope, the spreadsheet disintegrates into one long column, but here's the website that has it:

You can also ask Google, just type in like "10.5 cups in mL"

If you have a Google Echo, you can ask it verbally. Siri Apple devices do the same thing. You can say to an iPhone "How many liters are in a gallon' and it will give you the correct answer.

But a metric cup means 200ml.

Weird, nah?

What about an espresso cup? Its volume is about 50-70ml but only contains 25ml of coffee.

Measuring in cups and spoons is never exactly as there are no DIN-norms for cups, spoons, forks, knifes.

:-)
