Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

So I've been taking adderall for around 5 years now. Im 27 years old. Anyway, eating for me is a nightmare. I feel hungry and week and I know I NEED to eat, but when I browse the kitchen the thought of eating anything makes me feel nauseous. I usually settle on half a PB&J sandwich and just force it down as fast as I can. I eat really bland food as its the only thing I can really tolerate. or processed calorie dense food that i can eat in a few bites but is otherwise pretty unhealthy. does anyone else prefer bland food? I've been eating this weird "smoothie" made with oats and peanut butter with some other odds and ends thrown in for added nutrition. it's like the consistency of ice cream and I eat it with a spoon. it doesn't really have much flavor but that's why i "like" it. Are there any other weirdos like me that eat in ways most people would find "odd?"

I don’t like to eat when I take my adderall either

Fruits and vegetables seem ok. Though I don’t bother with them enough

I'm a picky eater and fruits and veggies were hard to eat even when I wasn't on medication. I wish food pills were a real thing.

Not so much of a chore but more like less of a priority.I use alarms on my phone to eat a snack every 2 hours. The only time I am really hungry is when I first wake up.

Re: Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

I didn't want to eat when I started taking Adderall but that side effect wore off after about a year.

Have you tried eating apple slices with peanut butter? Adderall gives me dry mouth and juicy apple slices always taste good (and the peanut butter can be your calories)

Re: Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

I guess it gets harder for me when I get stressed out. I lost my job recently so that's been fun. Eating is just really rough. I mean nothing tastes good. It feels like trying to eat something after you just finished eating a massive dinner. it's something i associate with pain. so I often skip eating. I get lightheaded and fatigued. I've always been a picky eater and a thin person and I don't have a lot of variety in my diet. my saving grace is an antidepressant mirtazapine which lets me make up for not eating because it makes you feel super hungry. doesn't do much else though as far as i can tell. I just stay on it so I can eat at night.

I sometimes eat a big breakfast before taking my first dose. but it makes me feel really sluggish all day.

I think I'm gonna have to put myself on a schedule to eat little bits throughout the day.

Re: Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

I take Dexedrine, not Adderall, but the chemistry has a lot of overlap, and for sure, Dex messes with my appetite something serious.

That said, I can usually make myself eat something when I need to.

And that is something I could never do on Ritalin/methylphenidate.

I don’t have any problem drinking fluids on Dex though, which is good, because it necessitates additional hydration while it is active and for a time after, in my experience.

Cheers,
Ian

Re: Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

Very interesting. When you all say Adderall, are you on the IR or the ER (extended release)???.

I take Adderall IR, and while I do am skinny and eat healthier stuff, however I do wish I could spend lesser time eating, since it consumes most of my day, and keeps me from doing other things. First I like to decorate my lunch/dinner plate with colorful stuff, as I finish all that stuff, I follow it with some healthier snacks and browse on internet, as I finish that, I like to have huge cup of tea alongside a sumptuous desert or pie ... it really takes a long time.

I live on peanut butter. I have it slapped on something at least once a day.

Re: Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

I was eating all the time before I started treatment for ADHD. I would procrastinate with food (I think I need a snack, I'll start this project after!)

I feel better on Adderall after I've had a snack with protein, that could be your motivation to eat (Adderall will work better).

Yes. I must schedule it or it won't happen.

And on days off.. I am constantly shoveling in the food. Welcome to the club!!

It is if I have to make it.

I want food served to me to pick at.

Re: Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

I am exactly the same way! The foods I eat are incredibly predictable and bland just like you mentioned. Rice, bread, oatmeal, fruits and veggies, and fish (raw, not cooked) are usually my time honored traditions.

Other people notice it about me, so I'm trying to figure out what helps me with it. I eat more when other people are around and if there's a bowl of fruit out in the open it's an easy reminder to graze throughout the day. There's also the advantage that I have a medical cannabis prescription and it helps with appetite most of the time.

See if you can note anything that encourages you to eat and build on it from there would be my advice.

Re: Anyone else feel like eating is a chore on adderall

yea peanut butter is starting to become a major part of my diet. I guess i developed lactose intolerance somewhat recently. so cheese is out now. My diet is pretty high in fat. I try to eat "healthy" fats. i use cashew butter, almond butter in place of peanut butter sometimes. fruits and veggies are really a challenge. its not the taste that bothers me that much its the texture. it triggers my gag reflex. and I cant mix fruit into stuff cuz it still makes me gag. Fruit juice is acidic so i dont drink that since it can reduce the effect of adderall. I drink ensure sometimes if i notice im struggling with food intake more than usual.
