Just wanted to share....

Hi. I've been having some deep thoughts lately and have wanted to share this for awhile.
To anyone who feels like they can not take one more painful thing...you will get through this. Being in pain is terrible but life is full of lessons. Its all practice as we learn how to be better humans to ourselves and others. I promise you if you stay centered on yourself and grounded (whatever works for you...meditation, grounding, visualization, accupuncture, clean eating...whatever)- if you just open your mouth and breathe deep breaths, like you are breathing for the first time in your life..you can push through the pain. Everything is temporary and all the baby steps you take do lead to fulfillment. If something bad happens and the next time the same or similar something bad comes along...if you just make one small change in how you react THIS time vs the last time you are successful. Small changes mean big growth.

I am not trying to preach. I am not someone who thinks they have all the answers but in the last 2 years...(death, almost losing my house, daughter running away, coming back and going to rehab, 3 surgeries, financial troubles, college bills, insurance issues, daughter living in a sober house and reintegrating into the family..) I never thought I would see the other side. Especially the pain of my daughter leaving and returning an addict. My heart literally hurt. And now that she is back it hurts a little differently. For me my self focus involves something akin to prayer and meditation mixed up into one thing because I am not religious. But it can be whatever works for you as long as it is self care. I don't care if playing a video game or online game or group is your thing, or cuddling up on the couch with netflix. Whatever your thing is to get you through it, I promise you it will work.

You are worth it. You deserve it. You are loved.

Thanks so much for this. I've been going through some epic crap lately and I'm glad I found this. Thanks so much again.

Yes!! I agree. Sometimes directing our thoughts to something else really helps. It's always good to go back to those things w really enjoy doing in order to help heal our weary minds. It's awesome how you have learned to engage in an activity which helps you take care of yourself. We all deserve it.

Best of Luck.

I've been letting myself feel this quite a bit lately.
I'm not beating myself up or letting others make me feel guilty for a lot of things...it's like, you know? Life goes on...it's not the end of the world if I make it to group late once in awhile (like literally...I've been late twice in the past 3 or so months. Big deal!) or if I need a break from the lady helping me clean my apartment once in awhile.
It's what I need for ME and I don't need to come up with excuses or reasons for people. I'm okay with it and feel zero inner guilt about such things currently and I wont let people guilt trip me. Life goes on...these are such small things, why even bother letting them drag my mood down?

Some interesting thoughts Sarah. But the thing with the bit I quoted above
is that I often don't remember how I reacted last time.
I may or may not react the same way this time or next time. It's a crap shoot.

What has been working better for (for now at least) is being more mindful
in each small everyday reaction and working on changing those.
If I wait for something bad to happen, there is no mindfulness ...
there is only reaction.

Some good advice I got on handling problems: Sometimes it's best to fix something else and come back to it later.

Yes, I found that practicing mindfulness and really paying attention to the present moment and not the swirl of thoughts in my head helps me to slow down and more skillfully deal with each situation in front of me.

It used to feel like life was moving just so fast, and by the time I'd realized I'd messed up one situation I was already on to the next. I think it's all about being more mindful and spending less time lost in your head. It takes practice.

It's also about not feeling like a failure when paying attention isn't working so well.

Yesterday I did some grocery shopping and stopped at Arby's just across the
street for take out. Ordered my daughter's usual but I wasn't in the mood for
a beef'n'cheddar myself. Sourkraut sounded tasty but I couldn't remember the
name of the sammie for anything.

So I asked the person at the other end of the speaker box, "What's the one with corned beef and sourkraut called?" She came back with "The Ruben?"
Yes! The Ruben. Instead of getting flustered and ordering something I didn't
really want, I had a chuckle with that person.
