It was time to take action and stop F-ing around, but fear of failure and fear of being too stupid for school is holding me back. I made a deal with myself: Take this mandatory course and work on the prep work what's the worst thing that could happen? I end up hating it and decide i could never teach or I do really well and realize that I could have a career.

Congratulations! Finding the motivation and courage to take the plunge was probably harder than your course will be. Go for it!

Its online and then has 8 observation hours and 12 or 15 clinical hours. My first time taking an online class and I have no idea how its done. I do not know if its discussion boards, chat rooms or lectures. I guess that makes me sound pretty old. If I can make it through, I can get excepted to the 2 year program and my credits go towards a masters in education. I can also participate with "source for teachers" nj which is a substitute system so I can get experience and a foot in the door.

I had terrible problems with math as a kid. I would literally be in tears struggling through my math homework. My bus went completely off the mathematical cliff at fractions.

I had a very good GED instructor who had a masters in mathematics, she got me over some of my initial phobia.

What got me through college was having instructors that could keep my attention. Some could, some couldn't. Doing all of my math homework in the math lab where there were always tutors to walk me through the problems. Also, in some classes where I couldn't keep attention I would literally tell my instructor I had attention issues and to make sure I was getting it. The instructors would literally ask, "Did you get that Shaun" after every explanation of a concept.

It's not that we can't do math. It's that we can't stay focus long enough to absorb it. Most of us are super smart, even if it doesn't feel that way sometimes. Over time I learned the basics really well and it became easier the further I went.

Hope that helps

Sarah, congratulations :)

I just was so excited for you when I saw those books!

I'm considering taking some online classes later, to get a certificate to be an interpreter (or just basic concepts even if i dont get the certificate).

I was also terrible at math; if i had a really good teacher it was almost ok; i have a good yet random visual memory and squeaked through the tests because "that looks kind of like it's supposed to."

i once shamelessly asked a girl on my floor in college ( she was an accounting major) to come with me to the computer lab and finish the homework for me. it took her about 5 minutes.
